Cord Blood Bank and Stem Cell

Umbilical Cord Blood

The umbilical cord is is the cord which connects an embroyo to the womb of its mother.

Blood containing nutrients and oxygen is carried from the mother to foetus and carbon dioxide and waste is carried away. If the umbilical cord is not prematurely clamped after birth, a physiological clamping will occur after birth caused by contact with cold air. Wharton's jelly (gelatinous substance, will swell around the umbilical blood vessels at the opposite ends of the umbilical cord and trap some blood between the opposing ends.

Umbilical Cord harvesting

Almost 200ml of umbilical blood can be harvested (collected) from the umbilical cord. Many believes hematopoietic cells (stem cells which can develop into different types of cells) in the umbilical cord' blood can be used to treat various types of serious illness of the infant and its family as well as strangers. Note that this is controversial. Note also

Umbilical cord blood bank

There are cord blood banks which provide services to save the cord blood for future uses. There are many such cord blood banks using cryogenic (very cold technology) to store cord blood and CryoCell cord blood bank and currently they have a cord bank special offer.

Natural Remedy or Baby Colic and Acid Reflux

What is Baby Colic?

What is colic is often the question that exasperated mothers often asked. Baby colic is abdominal pain characterized by incessant crying, often with apparently no particular reason. The non-stop crying of the baby is very distressing.

Natural Remedy for baby colic

Here are some natural Colic Cures you can try:
  1. Soothing Music and Sound
  2. try some soothing music such as traditional lullabies
  3. Change of diet - if you are breast feeding, try changing your diet. If the baby is on cow's milk-based formula, try changing to a soy-based one.

  4. Soothing bath or massage - give the baby a bath followed by a soothing massage

  5. Swaddle the baby with warm blankets like in the photo below:

  7. The traditional cure -Gripe Water: This had been the traditional cure for colicky baby from decades ago and can be effective if you get the right Gripe Water.

What is acid reflux

Acid reflux occurs when the acidic content of the stomach flows in the reverse direction from stomach to the throat (oesophegus), and when it occurs in a baby, it is referred to as infant reflux. It may cause mucosal damage (Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease) and if it reaches the throat, the condition is referred to as laryngopharyngeal reflux disease.

Family safe Reader's Digest online

I used to regularly read Reader's Digest some 30 plus years back and thoroughly enjoyed the articles published in them. You may even say that Reader's Digest had an influence in my life as all the articles are wholesome, family oriented and inspire and motivates. However, over the past few years, many things have changed. The marvelous invention, the World Wide Web and Internet have completely changed the people's (and mine) way of getting the news and stories. I for one have stopped buying the daily printed newspaper and read news online.

So it is a pleasant but not a great surprise to see that my favorite Reader's Digest have gone online. As usual, many of their articles are family oriented, like Reader's Digest tips for parenting children.

Now not only am I a single parent of 5 grown kids, I am also grandfather to one - Lewis Chew, youngest "blogger" in the world, plus grandpa to 2 more soon. So this blog My first grandchild will soon have to change title and become My grandchildren instead.

My grown daughter has become mother herself and if I am not wrong, complained about getting Lewis Chew to sleep. As usual, Reader's Digest have an article for such harassed mom - Help for Sleepless Moms

mother patiently reading to son

Here is another familiar inspiring story or drama from Reader's Digest - Heroes: Day-Care Drama. It is a story of how a brave mom became a heroine and tackled an armed man in a day care center almost single-handed.

Tonight, I am going to tell my daughter that Reader's Digest has joined the online bandwagon and now we are going to get our favorite family safe articles online 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Help for parents: Baby Carrier and Stroller Reviews

It is the rare couple who don't have babies (although it seems the trend of being child-free is increasing). Children are priceless source of support in old age. Parents (couples who have a child or children) tend to be surrounded with greater number of friends and have greater satisfaction with life.

Having babies means requiring "equipments". Some of them are baby carrier and baby stroller. Compared with the 70's when I was a parent, parents are much fussier nowadays plus they have greater choices. And many of them are prepared to spend. I know because I just became a grandfather. My daughter and son-in-law bought a pretty expensive baby carrier and baby stroller. However, with greater choice comes a greater headache of finding the right one for you. I remembered they took a very long time to find the stroller they wanted.

Really, I think you don't need to go through the hassle they went through, for there are online Baby Carrier reviews and Stroller Reviews easily accessible from your home computer.

The above reviews is ranked using a WIZERANK value which the site claim uses proprietary technology which cannot be manipulated. In other words, it is supposed to reflect the opinions and satisfactions with the ranked products of the users. WIZERANK value ranged from 100 to 1 with 100 being the best and 1 being the worst. With this, choosing the right carrier or stroller for your baby become a breeze.

There are other ways to use the review sites. You can search for products using criteria like price, brands, carry position, infant weight or carrier type. For example, if you are as spendthrift as my daughter and her husband, you can go for the high end baby carrier. If you are as stingy as me, you may look for the budget baby carrier.

There are many ways to use those baby carrier and baby stroller reviews sites. You can go check for yourself.

Family Friendly Hotels

Have you ever had that experience of taking your family (with kids) on a vacation or business-cum-pleasure trip, stay in a "nice" hotel, then find to your horror your kids switching on the TV and getting adult entertainment? That is a problem hotel booking sites are still unable to solve. If you are fortunate, you may be able to get a remote control with parental control mode, which let you lock a preset number of kid-friendly channels. However, this is a problem that is difficult to solve. Perhaps what can be done is not to leave your kids in the hotel room alone, but this will not be an option if you have 2 rooms, one for you and your spouse, and one for the kids. Parents are probably looking forward to the time they can get a family safe hotel booking site.

What you can get now are Family Friendly Hotels which offers activities like playgrounds, game rooms, arcades that can keep your kids away from the TV, and for family with very young kids, and babysitting services. However, I noticed that on this site, you can only chose states in the United States of America, Canada, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Puerto Rico and Australia. You can search for hotels worldwide by countries, but once you get to those sits, you wouldn't find a family friendly option. I suppose the site owner or owners are working hard to include more countries.

However, recreational vehicles (RV) are a common way for family to travel, and parents control exactly what is inside their RV. And if this is the mode of travel you chose for your family, RV Parks and Campgrounds, and this site includes all the states in US plus Australia, Canada, Denmark, Italy and Spain, plus special sites for national parks and state parks.

It is also not uncommon for family to have pets, and if your family travel for extended periods, you just can't leave your pets alone in the house. You will need to find a friend who is willing to take care of them for you or find a boarding place for pets. If you can't get these alternatives, or you or your children just can't bear not to have them at their sides all the time, there is another alternative - Pet Friendly Hotels

How to Create an Emotional Bond with Your Child

How to Create an Emotional Bond with Your Child

By Anthony Kane, MD

One of the most powerful tools a parents have for raising their children is the natural emotional bond that exists between them and their child. Children who feel close to their parents will have a strong desire to obey them. No child with this type of connection to his parents will want to risk hurting that connection by disobeying them. When such a relationship exists, the mere look of dissatisfaction on the face of a parent will usually be enough to curb inappropriate behavior. This bond is so strong and so potent that it lasts even though adolescence when most of the disciplinary tools at our disposal are ineffective. Often, it is the only tool we have in guiding our teenage children. Parents who do not have such a connection with their children have lost a vital resource necessary for successful parenting.

In addition, this bond is essential for the child's emotional stability. A recent psychology experiment studied people in their forties, whose parent were emotionally distant from them. These people were often depressed and lacked a sense of emotional well being. They had more difficulty in adjusting to the work environment and new social situations.

How do you develop this type of loving bond with your child? It begins in your child's infancy and is built by giving your child the love and affection that he needs.

Many well-meaning mothers are completely unaware that their own children are suffering from the lack of physical touch. There are many reasons for this. Most people associate deprived children as those who are neglected, abused, or chronically ill. However, the truth is that many of our children who come from good homes are not getting the physical warmth and love that they need. In our two-income society, unaffectionate caretakers, who provide for the child’s physical needs with as little warm and contact as possible, often raise children. Also, many of us did not receive enough physical love and warmth as children. As a result, it is not natural to us to cuddle, coo, kiss, and love our children affectionately. In addition, some children naturally need more physical warmth. These touch-deprived children fill our schools. They are the ones who often look sad and depressed, suffering from not getting their physical needs for contact.

The United States is one of the richest countries in the history of the world. Yet, our children in general are touch starved. We are busy with our lives and our careers. We often raise our children in broken homes. We as parents are suffering under the burden of so much physical and emotional stress, that we are often just glad to make it through the day without hitting or screaming at our children. Who has time to give them affection? Yet, this is what our children crave most from us. We fill our houses with toys and things for our children, but it is us that they really need.

There is much talk about the generation gap. We all know that adolescents naturally rebel. Sometimes we look at our little children and wonder what is going to be in ten years when this cute little four-year-old turns fourteen. Will he be one of the children who abuses drugs? Is he going to steal? Is he going to do worse? What is going to be?

You need to take the time now, and give your child the physical warmth and love that your child needs. If you build strong bonds of love with your child now, while he is still young, then all these problems that you read about, will be just that; things that you read about. You will not experience these problems in your own home, because you have developed a strong relationship with you child.

Parents should get life insurance to protect dependents

What does the word parent mean? It means having a child or children. And when they are young, they are totally dependent upon the parent to provide the food for them, to provide a roof over their head, to clothe them, to provide for their needs like incidental necessities - tooth brush, tooth paste, towels, soap, etc. To provide the school or college fees.

Parents are human. That means they cannot be 100% sure they will always be around while the child or children are dependent on them. It is their responsibility to continue to provide for their child or children's needs if, to put it crudely, they die. And this is what life insurance is all about. To have a sum of money to enable the family to continue, preferably with the same standard of living, when they are gone as when they were still around.

There are many types of insurance of which the cheapest and purest form is term life insurance. It is like car or fire insurance. You pay premium for a defined period of time. If anything happened to you, a sum of money called sum insured is paid to the beneficiaries. If at the end of that defined period, nothing happen, you get nothing back. My opinion is in a period of high inflation, term life insurance, is the most logical type of insurance one should get.

For a young family, the house they stay in is most likely to have been bought with the help of a housing loan. The distinctive feature of a housing loan is that as you make the monthly repayments, the amount owed is reduced. Now there is a special type of insurance called mortgage insurance where the sum insured is reduced in tandem with the reduced loan outstanding. This is even cheaper than term life insurance and ensure that your dependent will continue to have a roof over their head if (sorry) you die.

Now not every parents are well to do. Some have to struggle to make ends meet. If you are in such circumstances, you should look for affordable insurance quotes for families.

Bridal Shower Invitations

It is common in US and Canada for bridal shower to be organised by the bridesmaids before the wedding. A bridal shower is a party given for the bride before the wedding, usually organised by the bridesmaids to offer gifts for the bride and groom for their new home.

However, it is not uncommon for bridesmaids to be sisters of the brides, in which case, the bridal shower may be organised by the family. In any case, invitation cards for the bridal shower need to be sent out.

Bridal Shower Invitations Store has a great variety of bridal shower elegant and sophisticated invitation card designs. To invite friends and family over for a cup of tea, Bridal Shower Invitations Store has a teapot design. For a more feminine design, Bridal Shower Invitations Store has a card with the picture of a bride where wording can be put in the bride's dress and 2 lines can be printed on the veil. Bridal Shower Invitations Store also has a creative invitation card design in form of a handbag with a black ribbon as a handle. Why Plan an After Prom Party

Why Plan an After Prom Party
by: Lori Heatherington

From the time I enrolled my daughter in elementary school it seemed that the world was out to ruin her innocence.

Her know-it-all six year old friends with older brothers and sisters shared the world’s reality with her on a daily basis. And I, who was happy living in the land of talking stuffed animals, was in no hurry to debate the concept of Santa Claus.

Unfortunately, that age of innocence doesn’t last long enough. Whether we like it or not, reality plops itself on the sofa in our living room and sits there while our children struggle through adolescence. About the time that we’re able to find some common ground, they’re talking to us about claiming their independence and graduating from high school.

If there’s one thing I’ve discovered in parenting, it’s that we can protect our children from many things when they’re under our roof. Once they’re out of sight however, their own their own. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean anything bad will happen; unless they’re with one of those know-it-all friends they’ve known since the first grade.

Seriously, peer influence can be a constant source of challenge, growth, and heated conversations in homes across America. In addition to marketing messages that conflict with our parenting goals, our teenagers are heavily influenced by their friends. Therefore, it’s imperative that we do what we can to guide and protect them.

The pressure to experiment with alcohol and drugs is a constant source in the lives of teenagers and is often the gateway to risky sexual encounters. In addition to alcohol, many teenagers resort to tobacco, club drugs, inhalants, steroids, and methamphetamines just to fit in. Why not make it easy for them to just say no on prom night!

Because prom night is seen as a “right of passage,” anything parents can do to create an alternative to rented hotel rooms and unsupervised parties is a wise idea. According to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (see www.madd.org/stats/2421), on the weekend of my daughter’s prom in May 2000, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, FARS data reported that there were 246 total traffic fatalities. From the “Prom/Graduation Weekend Alcohol-Related Fatalities – 2000” report, 136 of the motor vehicle traffic fatalities (55.2%) were alcohol related.

With the help of the community and one another, parents can take a stand against the negative persuasion and fight the devastating statistics as reported by the NHTSA. By following the outline in the After Prom Party Guide, parents can plan and implement an After Prom party to keep their teenagers off the street after the prom. Designed to insure the safety and well being of high school teenagers, all-night After Prom parties are a sure bet for free food, fun and entertainment.

Although most parents come to accept the fact that their children do make their own choices and they can’t blame the first grade friends for every bad decision, no parent wants the challenge of “what if” questions of themselves. Prom night is supposed to be a wonderful time - let’s make it our mission to keep our teenagers safe and off the streets. That idea was the motivation and the inspiration behind the After Prom Party Guide.

Advice to expecting parents

I have a personal story to tell. At one stage of my marriage to my late wife, we were having a difficult relationship at a stage when she was pregnant with one of my sons. She probably had spell of anger, and hormones related to that was probably flowing through her bloodstream. It is not difficult to believe that similar hormones were flowing through the foetus bloodstream too. And I believe this may have affected the foetus.

The consequence - I have a son with a bad temper to deal with. Things you do during pregnancy may come back to haunt you. The moral of the story is, keep the atmosphere calm and serene during pregnancy if you don't want the same thing that has happened to me.

Teaching With Preschool Software

Teaching With Preschool Software
by: Jennifer Houck

Computers and their Benefits

Computers are becoming increasingly popular in homes, day care centers, preschools, and schools. In fact, current statistics show that more than 50% of all children have used a computer by the time they are four years old. That number jumps to over 80% when discussing children who have used the computer by the time they have entered Kindergarten. Using computer programs for educational purposes offers a host of benefits. Preschool software can be a great way to help children develop and reinforce many educational skills from literacy to science. Many parents may mistakenly believe that their preschooler is to young to benefit from computer software but this is a gross misconception. Preschoolers need to develop literary awareness and preschool software is a great way to expose children to concepts that will help them make the connection between words and their meanings. When it comes to learning, preschoolers need to learn in an atmosphere that is relaxed and fun. Many preschool software games incorporate graphics, audio files, and interesting voice patterns. This helps engage the child’s senses and stimulates learning. It is also important to ensure that the preschool software will help increase their logic, reasoning, and problem solving abilities. Since exploration, imaginative learning, and play are also critical to early childhood development, using preschool software can be an effective means for developing these areas as well.

One word of caution that is important to mention, is that preschoolers have a strong need for interaction with adults and other children. Therefore, the computer should never be used as a substitute for one-on- one or group learning. Consider the use of a preschool software program as an additional learning tool to enhance your curriculum- not to replace it. Some areas where you can find preschool software beneficial include:

•Oral Language Development- choose software that allows children to record and playback their voice. Also, look for software that has a narrator who children will interact and respond to.

•Increase Awareness in the Areas of Phonetics and Print- Preschool software can help children make the connection between print words and their meanings. It is also a valuable way to teach letter recognition, stories, rhymes, and letter sounds.

Using computers and preschool software can be advantageous for all children. It is important to ensure that each activity is connected to the other areas of learning currently being taught.

Crying Baby - Reasons

Crying Baby - Reasons
by: Theresa McNally

Introduction:

Crying is a normal event in the lives of all babies. When a baby comes out of the woomb the first thing to do is crying.By the first cry he will take some air in to the lungs for the first time in their life. After delivery if the baby doesnot cry then it should be initiated by slightly pinching or gently strocking the feet. From this it is clear that the healthy baby should cry and it is a normal physiological event ,still some times it can upset the mother or family members.

We all know that a baby can't tell his needs or troubles in words. The only way for him to communicate with others is by crying.Babies show some other signs like feet kicking, hand waving and head turning ect.But the best way to take the attention of others is by crying.

Excessive crying may not have a firm definition because the crying habit changes from baby to baby and some babies can be calmed easily but some are difficult to sooth. If crying is distressing for the mother and home nurse it can be called excessive. Many a times baby become quiet by giving breast milk or by carrying with a gentle rocking.Sudden onset of excessive crying means baby is distressed and needs attention. The causes of crying extends from simple reasons to life threatening conditions.Hence crying of a baby should not be ignored.

Most of the time it is difficult to find the cause of the cry .Common causes are discussed here for awareness.

Common reasons for crying:

1, Hunger:--

A hungry baby will cry till he gets the milk. Here the old saying comes true'crying baby gets the milk'.

2, Wetting:--

Urination and defecation causes some discomfort and results in crying till his parts are cleaned and made dry .

3, Company:--

Majority of the kids need somebody near. If they feel lonely they cry. When their favourite doll slips away from the grip they cry for help.

4, Tired:--

When the baby is tired after a journey and unable to sleep just cry simply. They feel tired in uncomfortable sourroundings and due to unhealthy climate.

5, Heat & cold:--

If they feel too hot or too cold they become restless and cry. Child is comfortable in a room with good ventilation.

6, Tight cloathing:--

Tight cloaths especially during warm climate is intolerable for kids.Tight elastic of the the dress can also produce soreness in the hip region.

7, Dark room:--

When the baby wakes up from sleep he needs some dim light. If there is darkness he will disturb the sleep of parents by crying.Ofcourse he will be irritated by strong light resulting in cry.

8, Mosquito:--

Yes,these creatures disturb the sleep by their blood sucking and make the baby to cry.

9, Nasal blocking:--

Child may not be able to sleep when there is a cold and go on crying till the passage is open.

10, Phlegm in throat:--

This also causes difficult breathing resulting in cry.Often a typical sound can be heard with each breath.

11, General aching:--

Generalised body ache with restlessness is seen in flu and prodromal stages of some infectious diseases can result in continuous cry.

12, Habitual cry:---

Some babies cry without any real cause ending the parents in agony. Many a times doctor is called for help.

13, Nappy rash:--

If a tight and wet nappy is kept for a long time results in this conditon. Rash can also be due to some allergic reaction to the elastic material of the nappy. When the rash appears it causes soreness and baby become sleepless and cry. All other skin lesions like eczema, ecthyma ,candidiasis ect also causes same problems.

14, Earache:--

Ear infection is common in wet climate. The infection may spread from the throat.Ear infection can result in rupture of ear drum causing discharge of pus.Eareache usually becomes worse at night when lying down.Child will become restless with cry and may not allow you to touch the ear. Some children with earache rub the affected ear frequently.

15, Colic:--

When the baby cry continuously most of us diagnose it as colic. This roblem is still a topic for debate because exact cause for colic is not known and diagnosis is also difficult to confirm.Colic may be associated with rumbling and distention of abdomen.Child often feels better when lying on abdomen. Some children may not allow you to touch the abdomen. If the child cries continuously doctors help is needed.

16, Infections:--

All infections causes some kind of pain or irritation resulting in cry.Infection may be anywhere in the body.Usually it is associated with fever, redness and swelling.

17, Reactions to certain food:--

It is said that one man's food is another man's poison. Some food articles can produce some allergic reactions.Allergy is manifested in the form of redness, breathlessness, gastric symptons and continuous cry.

18, Hard stools:--

Constipated babies with hard stools may cry when they get the urge for stool. Some children hesitate to pass stool because of pain .

19, Gastro esophagial reflex:--

Here baby cries with spilling of food after feeding. If this continues it may be due to gastroesophageal reflex. This is due to failure of the lower part of esophagus to close after food causing regurgitation from the stomach. It is difficult to diagnose this condition and can be confirmed by giving antireflex medicines.

20, Dentition:--

During dentition child becomes restless with crying. Often associated with gastric troubles and diarrhoea.

Some rare reasons -----------------

1, Bowel obstruction:--

Bowel obstruction is associated with severe pain and vomiting. Abdomen is distended with rumbling sound. Baby is constipated with absence of flatus.

2, Septicemia:--

Invasion of pathogenic micro organisms in to the blood is called septicemia. Fever is associated with this condition.

3, Torsion of testes in male kids:--

When a male baby cries continuously his scrotum should be examined. Torsion of the testes produce severe pain which will be worse by touching the affected testes. When the testes is pressed upwards pain is releived. If this is not treated properly it can damage the affected testes due to lack of blood supply.

4, Meningitis:--

Initially there may not be fever, hence crying baby with alternate vacant stare and irritability should not be ignored. Fontanel is bulging. Neck rigidity and seizures may appear later.

5, Retention of urine:--

Children with retention of urine will have agonising pain making them restless.

7, Major injuries:--

Major injury to any parts of the body causes pain. Occasionally children will fall while arrying and results in head injury. Head injury is associated with reflex vomiting and convulsions.

My Daughters Precious Ballet Shoes

My Daughters Precious Ballet Shoes
by: Morgan Hamilton

I was really glad when my daughter told me during her fifth birthday, that she wants to be a ballerina when she grows up. It thrilled me to know that I had a true little girl who is not interested in being a tomboy. I enrolled her into some creative dance classes before going into ballet. I was overjoyed when her instructors told me after the first year, that they thought she would be perfect for beginner ballet lessons.

My daughter and I were so excited that we rushed out to buy the outfits that she would need for her ballet classes. My daughter looked so beautiful in her tights that I was literally I was taking pictures of her every few seconds. Then we began to look for ballet shoes. The salesperson was very helpful, but my daughter didn't like the way that the shoes felt on her feet. I tried to explain to her that ballet shoes were supposed to feel that way. I also told her that she has to wear them if she wanted to take ballet classes. My daughter pouted for a few moments and then finally agreed.

She attended her first ballet class after a week. My little girl was all decked out elegantly in her new outfit, but refused to put the ballet shoes on. I had to plead with her for about 15 minutes before I was able to convince her that she could wear sandals and put her shoes on when we arrived. She packed them in her bag, but then she told me that she would be dancing in her sandals. I just sighed and hoped that her teacher can do a better job of convincing her to wear the ballet shoes.

All of the other girls in her class were running around happily in their outfits when we arrived. My daughter removed her sandals but was content to walk around barefoot. I whispered the issue to her ballet teacher, who agreed to deal with it. She approached my daughter and whispered something in her ear. Before I knew it, the ballet shoes were on my daughter’s feet. I was amazed and pleased when I left the room.

My daughter is now in high school and has gone through several pairs of ballet shoes. She is still determined to chase her dream of being a ballerina in the future. I feel very proud and happy whenever I see her carrying those pink ballet shoes to class. Many of my paychecks have been spent on buying her ballet outfits and shoes. But I can tell you that I have never once complained about a single dollar I spent. I still even have that first pair of tiny shoes for ballet that we purchased. They are now sitting on my dresser, next to a picture of my daughter in her first ballet recital.

What you should avoid as a future parent

This is from personal experience. Because it is from personal experience, and I hope that other parents will avoid the mistakes I made, I am making this a sticky post (one which remain at the top of the main page always). If you want to know how to make a sticky post, surf over to How to make a sticky post (close new window to get back to this page).

When your wife is pregnant, try to keep the relationship good and avoid arguments that may lead to her getting angry. Keep the atmosphere calm and serene. Why do I say this? I have 5 grown up children, and one of them have a very bad temper. If my memory did not fail me, my wife was pregnant with him when we did not have a good relation and there were frequent arguments. My guess was that when one is angry, hormones circulate inside the body, and the same hormones circulate within the foetus. My guess is that this affect the development of the baby and when born, the baby is likely to have a bad temperament. So fathers and father-to-be, keep on good terms with your wife when she is pregnant, for otherwise, it may come back to haunt you with a bad tempered child. Keep the atmosphere calm and serene.

Another example. My sister-in-law lost her first baby due to a blocked intestine. She had other babies after that. I suspect that when she was pregnant with the second one, she was still mourning for the first baby she lost. Of all the children, the eldest always show a sad countenance, unlike the younger ones who are always cheerful.

Also, value education. I have five children. I encouraged the first three to read from young. Then I had some bad experience from thinking too much. (I am a highly educated and thinking person). Too much thinking gave me problems. Also, I have the impression that the more one is educated, the less risks one is prepared to take. So my last too was not brought up the same way the elder three were. I did't emphasise on education as much as I did with the elder three. Now they are grown up, the elder three are doing OK and can take care of themselves. The younger three who are less educated find problems getting good jobs.

Just hope my experience will help you avoid the pitfalls I have allowed myself to fall into.
